In March 2017, United States Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec together with Turkana County Commissioner Stephen Ikua, Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Turkana Governor Koli Nanok, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett, Marsabit County Governor Ukur Yatani and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Kenya Country Director Karen Freeman launched three projects to boost economic growth and improve water, sanitation and hygiene services in Kenya worth USD 38 million.
Below are the highlights of the official launch of the Feed the Future Kenya Accelerated Value Chain Development (AVCD) program, together with 2 other USAID investments in Turkana County at Moruase Irrigation Scheme. In Napeikar, the delegation made a site visit to Napeikar Core Innovation Group, a group supported by USAID through the AVCD project implemented by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in collaboration with Turkana County Government. The groups activities include village-level livestock disease surveillance and reporting to the County Veterinary Authorities and Innovative Community-Based Breeding (ICBB) initiatives.
